The Pittsburgh Ski Club offers skiing and snowboarding instruction discounts to MEMBERS ONLY (unless stated otherwise). The various ski/snowboard intruction discounts are noted below.

2010–2011 OFFERS

PA Ski Council Sponsored Learn to Ski (Board and Telemark) Day
Learn to Ski Day will be January 9, 2011 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. Several options are available – downhill skiing, boarding and Telemark. Introductory and beginner options are available See PSC coupon to sign up. Cost for level 1 (introductory – never been on skis) will be $12 for Skiing or $22 for Snowboarding. Level 2 (beginner) costs will be $22 for Skiing and $32 for Snowboarding. Cost for Telemark will be provided later. These greatly discounted packages include equipment, lessons and lift tickets. More details for times for these lessons are forthcoming. You must submit your reservation no later than December 30, 2010; but sign up early – space is limited for these deeply discounted lessons. Event times will be posted in the newsletter and website, and on the PSC Facebook page. Come up for the PSC Social Meeting at Seven Springs on January 8, 2011, stay overnight and join us on Sunday.

PSC Five–Week Downhill Ski and Board Instruction:
The PSC will arrange for a 5–week lesson program at Hidden Valley starting the week of January 2, 2011. A group of 15 skiers and boarders is needed to get the discounted rate and reservations must be received no later than December 6, 2010. Planned lessons are January 2, 9, 23, 30, and February 6, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. We have opted to select the earlier twilight shift lesson due to requests from class members. Lift tickets will be good from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. The costs are as follows:

  • Ski/Board Lift Tickets (5 days) = $100
  • Ski and Boot Rental (5 sessions) = $65
  • Board and Boot Rental (5 sessions) = $85
  • Lessons = $50

Hidden Valley Tuesday Ladies’–only Day Lesson Program
The program dates are January 18, 25, and February 1, 8, and 15, 2011. The program consists of a 90 minute lesson beginning at 11:00 a.m. Season pass holders pay $55. Those without a pass can get an all day lift ticket and lesson for $125 or an all day lift ticket, rentals and lesson for $190. This program is not subsidized by PSC or WPSC. Non–members are welcome to participate and no coupon is necessary. See the program flyer here.

Hidden Valley Two–Day Ladies’–only “Snow Angels” Lesson Program
This program will take place January 29 and 30, 2011 and will include four hours of lessons and lunch each day. Also included are all day lift tickets and a mixer with hors d’oeuveres. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Lessons take place between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. both days. Your reservation must be submitted no later than January 15, 2011. The regular price for this program is $150, excluding rentals and lodging. PSC will subsidize $40 for current female members (minimum 4 participants). Members interested in the discounted program must send a coupon and check for $110 to Kim Falk by the signup deadline. Non–Members are welcome to participate at regular price. Subaru “Master The Mountain” weekends at Hidden Valley
Hidden Valley Resort and Subaru of America, Inc. are hosting two weekends of “Master the Mountain” on January 16 and 17 and February 12 and 13, 2011. During the “Master the Mountain” weekends, Hidden Valley’s ski school will offer FREE lessons of varying difficulty; “Breaking the Wedge” for skiers and snowboarders with limited experience, “Control on Blues” for intermediate skill level and “Short Radius Turns in the Fall Line” for those with advanced skills.


Whether you are a first–time racer or seasoned gate runner you can benefit from this ski racing instruction program. For a schedule of classes, cost and other information go to the website. You must be a current member to participate.



A special $35 package deal for a beginner lift ticket (no upgrade), one beginner group lesson and complete rental equipment is now available through the Pennsylvania Ski Area Association. The package is good at 22 resorts including Blue Knob, Hidden Valley, Seven Springs and Mystic Mountain (Nemacolin Woodlands).

Quantities are limited (first come, first served), and orders must be received on or before December 11, 2010. The vouchers are good anytime, including weekends and holidays. Contact your preferred ski area for hours of operation. These vouchers are good only for the 2010–2011 ski season. Vouchers are non–refundable, may have chairlift restrictions, and are not for resale. There is a maximum of six packages per household.

Minimum age requirements are in effect. Seven Springs will take children as young as 7, Hidden Valley 8 years old, Blue Knob 8 years old and Mystic Mountain as young as 4.

DATES: Saturday, January 8, 2011 and Saturday, February 26, 2011
TIMES: Time for both ski days is 10:00 a.m. till ? Alice Cottone will be at the Center at 8:00 a.m. to ski early.

Bring a lunch or buy something to eat at the Center. Rentals are always available. The Center has bathroom facilities and two warming huts. On these dates there will be free beginner lessons given by PASCCA member and PSC member, Alice Cottone. Alice will give a mini lesson for cross country beginners who arrive by 10:00 a.m. The snowshoe trails are different trails than the ski trails. Snowshow rentals are also available at the center.
